Finding the Abandoned Resort (and Beach) in Koh Tao, Thailand

Do you like hiking?  Exploring abandoned buildings?  Beaches with very few people on them?  Keep reading!

Visiting the abandoned resort in Koh Tao was one of my favorite spots!

You start off with a decent hike that will get your daily (or weekly) workout in, you then reach the abandoned resort, and finally you can relax on the secluded beach!

Here’s how to get there!

Head to the Sairee Beach area. Walk up the street perpendicular to 7-11 where you will pass “Asia Divers.” Keep walking straight along that street until you reach the Tarna Align hotel. Turn right in on the street in front of the resort.

Follow that road and keep going straight! You will soon reach a path that is not car or scooter accessible. This is the trail you will be following for about an hour! On our whole hike to the resort, we did not see one single person! It actually made me nervous because it felt like we were aimlessly walking through the jungle… just keep going!

When we arrived, there were 2 other people at the resort and beach! Make sure to do some exploring and then spend the afternoon on a beach almost all to yourself! On our hike back to town, we did run into 3 groups of people. But that is still nothing compared to how many people are at the other beaches!

The hike to the abandoned resort was awesome and I would highly suggest going while in Koh Tao, Thailand!

On your hike bring water, snacks, bug spray, and something to lay on at the beach.

Bonus points if you can find “#kaitlicia” (combination my me & my BFF’s names :p) I wrote on the wall of the resort. (Is it bad to write on abandoned buildings? …Everyone else did it!)

Let me know if you have any questions and/or successfully found the abandoned resort in Koh Tao!!

Hi! I’m Felicia. I am a 23 year old traveler originally from Huntington Beach, CA and currently living in Auckland, New Zealand. I graduated from California State University, Fullerton in May 2016. After graduation, I didn't have a "dream career" in mind, so I followed my heart and have been finding ways to make money as I travel the world ever since! I plan to travel and learn more about the world than I ever did in school. Traveling is a passion of mine. I love seeing the beauty of our world through architecture, nature, and people. I love connecting with people without being able to speak the same language. I love being in an unfamiliar place alone and stepping outside of my comfort zone. But I don’t know what I want to do yet. I plan to travel the world for as long as possible instead of "adulting." Until I figure it out, will you go on this adventure with me?

  1. Looks stunning. Koh Tao was so packed when we went that it was an hour before we found a room. I wish we had known where to find our own spot.
Next time I’ll definitely be hunting this out.

  2. Oh, we hiked up to that abandoned resort as well during our stay on Koh Tao! What a coincidence. 🙂 It was a really long hike from our bungalow though. It was quite the adventure, as you don’t see anyone else, like you say, and you aren’t really sure if you’re still on the right track. Worth a visit if you love abandoned buildings indeed!
