Whether you are looking for a romantic and wine filled weekend away, or an adventurous trip including walks, beaches, and sightseeing, there are things to do in Waiheke for everyone! A short 35 minute Fullers ferry ride away from Auckland will take you to paradise. We fell in love with Waiheke Island and are already looking forward to going back! Here is our guide of the best things to do in Waiheke!
- Enjoi Wine Tour- A trip to Waiheke isn’t complete without it! We were picked up directly from the Fullers ferry terminal and driven around to 4 different wineries throughout the day! Each winery was gorgeous and included wine and food tastings. We all had so much fun. The Enjoi wine tour is the most relaxing and perfect way to spend a day on the island!
- Mudbrick Vineyard- Our tour did not include going to Mudbrick, but we made sure to head there after for more food and wine! The view from Mudbrick was my favorite on the whole island! We spent the afternoon relaxing on the couches outside with a view of Auckland, drinking a bottle of wine, and enjoying some delicious snacks. It was a very romantic setting and was the highlight of my weekend!
- Breakfast with a view at Wai Kitchen- I found this place on Instagram months before our trip and I knew I had to visit! We had the most delicious pancakes with a gorgeous view. The best way to start any morning!
- Walks- There are so many fun walks along the coast in Waiheke! It was amazing to go from a bush walk to a stunning coastal view in seconds. We did the walk starting in Oneroa on the Blackpool walkway, but I would love to have done other walks as well! Check out all of the walks you can do on Waiheke here.
- Beaches- Beautiful beaches in all directions… well, because it’s an island. But really they are something to look at! Palm Beach and Onetangi Beach are supposed to be some of the best! But we just stayed near the main city at Oneroa Bay and Little Oneroa Beach!
- Island Gelato- I love me some dessert, especially on a nice warm day after a walk! We loved Island Gelato for all of their delicious and unique flavors!
- Hekerua Lodge- A fun, budget accommodation that immediately made us feel like family! We were introduced to so many other travelers, given sightseeing tips, and made very welcome! They even have a pool and hot tub overlooking the gorgeous bush. The perfect place to stay to meet travelers and experience Waiheke on a budget!
Those were our favorite things to do in Waiheke! It was a romantic, but adventurous weekend. I hope this will guide you on your trip!

This place looks amazing. Perfect for a romantic getaway! Would love to visit Waiheke Island!
Not the worst place to sit down with a pancake and wine is it! Lovely views. So much more to the Kiwi land than just Auckland:)
Amazing Place for Couple and Romance..
New Zealand has been on our bucket list since LOTR came out 🙂 Such a stunning country! This is further proof! And so near Auckland too.
This looks like such a beautiful place. And that breakfast totally made my mouth water!
As someone who loves wine, walks and good breakfasts I am very much attracted to Waiheke’s magnetic pull. It is easy to see why people love to go and it is visually stunning as well !
I’ve always fascinated to travel NZ, and it is one of my top place in travel list. I guess I’ll opt for walking trails and ferry rides which I love the most.
Beautiful Pics! I had no idea about any of this in New Zealand, so I def learnt something new and it does sound like the perfect romantic getaway. Those pancakes and wine tour will be at the top of my list but I think everything you got to do here, I will do the same if I ever get a chance to visit there.
New Zealnd looks like an eternal dream and a place I would love to visit when my daughter is a little older.
Gosh I would love to go there. It looks so beautiful and though we have talked about visiting Australia we have not talked about New Zealand. Looks fabulous.
This looks so beautiful, I was not aware that we can so awesome things in new Zealand.
Really a beautiful place surrounded by nature. I would love to go for wine tasting.
We have neighbors who visited New Zealand last year and couldn’t stop talking about how beautiful it was. If my husband and I are ever lucky enough to go to Waiheke Island, you can bet we’ll be eating our weight in gelato (for her) and sipping wine at Mudbrick Vineyard (for him). x
Wine on an island sounds simply amazing. New Zealand is a part of the world I still need to explore. I’ll keep this in mind for when I do one day.
Should I ever find myself in New Zealand this spot will certainly be on my list. I might just get stuck where the gelato is though.
Love this. Have been to Waiheke Island a few times and your post captures the highlights perfectly. How can anyone go past Mudbrick Wines and that View?!
Wherever I read anything about NZ I feel so much connected. Been to NZ but not been to this place. The NZ bucket list just keeps on growing
I’ve got to go to New Zealand soon – what a lovely place!
New Zealand is on my bucket list, I can’t wait to go! I’d love to do a proper wine tour one day. Send me a bottle from that vineyard! 😛
This is the perfect list for me! Waiheke island looks beautiful, and I’m all about the vineyard and wine tour. That looks like a wonderful trip!
The winery looks fabulous! And those pancakes.. omg. The Hekuera Lodge looks like my kind of place. Pinning this!
